Atlantic Shores provides acute inpatient treatment for a wide variety of psychiatric disorders and chemical dependencies in a safe, secure and nurturing environment for adults 18 and up. This curriculum-based program is designed to address elements and behaviors common to those challenged by substance abuse and/or mental health issues.
Just as people are different, their treatment requirements are different. For that reason, Atlantic Shores offers several treatment options, depending upon the patient’s physical and psychological needs. Each individualized treatment plan focuses on attainable short and long-term goals established with input from the patient's family and referring professional, if appropriate. Families are an integral part of the treatment process and are encouraged to participate in the program so that both patients and families learn appropriate, healthy ways of coping with life and changing behavior patterns.
Chemical Dependency Programs:
- Alcohol and Drug Dependence
- 12-Step Licensed Chemical Dependency Program
- Medically Supervised Detoxification
- Substance Abuse Rehabilitation
The goal of the program is to improve the necessary daily living skills as well as coping mechanisms, in order to allow individuals to reach and maintain a maximum quality of life. Atlantic Shores strives to promote recovery for both the chemically dependent patient and the family. Patients are equipped with tools necessary to develop a new self-image, and to initiate and enjoy positive life changes, as they step into their future and maintain their sobriety.
Psychiatric Disorder Programs:
We provide a therapeutic milieu that uses a traditional cognitive behavioral approach to treatment in the adult psychiatric unit at Atlantic Shores Hospital. The cognitive behavioral approach is used because of the diverse population that we serve on this program.
Cognitive behavioral treatment is easily understood and easily integrated into a person’s life. It is frequently recommended for usage in a short term treatment arena in order to help people overcome issues in a very focused manner and in an easily replicated format.
Basic skills are taught to each person in order to help them to manage such issues as depression, anxiety, anger, thoughts of hopelessness or delusions. We teach people that thoughts can influence behavior and methods to manage thoughts.
The acute psychiatric program treats adults in an intensive therapeutic structure, providing medical and psychiatric stabilization and 24-hour nursing care for patients experiencing critical symptoms. Some of these symptons may include:
- Anxiety/Panic Attacks
- Bipolar Disorder
- Depression
- Extreme Anger and/or Dangerous Behavior
- Hallucinations/Delusional Thinking
- Medication Stabilization
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Schizophrenia
- Severe Mood Swings
- Suicidal Feelings & Self Harming Behaviors
Dual Diagnosis Program:
It is essential to determine what the primary diagnosis is with a dually diagnosed patient. That is why, after detoxification services are completed, psychiatric assessments are performed on an ongoing basis. It is often difficult to tell if a person drinks because they are depressed or if a person is depressed because they drink.
